Hand Chimes

Hand chimes are built around the concept of the tuning fork. They have a quiet, resonating sound. Since they are much more sturdy than handbells they are frequently used in schools for musical training. In recent years choirs composed of hand chimes have emerged as another way of worshiping through music. First Presbyterian has a set of five octaves.
Rehearsals are weekly on Thursday mornings from 11:00-12:00. Anyone who wants to learn the techniques of chime playing and the joy of playing in an ensemble is welcome.
Marguerite Martin is the director of the hand chime group. Members of the group include Reva Dixon, Ruth Dykstra, Karen Grady, Dick House, Eva House, Barbara Norris, Rosie Pardue, Gayle Patrick, Tom Pickens, Shannon Stevens, Joy Watson Greg Weed and Joan Young. Hand chimes play during the second service the third Sunday of the month, September through June.
